The poem " My Bed Is A Boat" by Robert Louis Stevenson, which really touches my heart in some points. The themes of the poem are about children's imagination and a happy childhood. It makes me to recall the days of my childhood. Every time when I was lying in bed and imaging the little bed as my transportation, which can drive me to the magic kingdom. Robert uses the metaphorical and symbolic way to show us the disparate world between children and adult. Also, the purpose of the poem is to convey a child's understanding of sleep. From the lyrics "Nurse helps me in when I embark; She girds me in my sailor's coat.", there are two different views happening by this time. For adult's view, nanny just want to take care the speaker into bed so that he can have a good rest. However, in child's understanding mind, going to bed is just the beginning of his adventure time. When the night comes, he said good-night and start to sail away. The destination that the speaker is sailing away is where we can get peace and relaxation. What's more, "Perhaps a slice of wedding-cake, Perhaps a toy or two.", the items mentioned in the lines refers to the comfort items that the child take to bed. All the vews that the speaker is dreaming or imagining are showing a sweet and happy of sleep. I love the way that the speaker describes his sleep.
