In the folk tale, “The Robber Bridegroom” the miller wanted his beautiful daughter to be married to a wealthy man. A suitor came along and the miller promised to give his daughter to him. The miller did this because he thought wealth was most important, rather than love. The suitor astonished by the millers beautiful daughter agreed to marry her but the suitor was tricking both of them. The suitor was a cannibal who wanted to eat the millers beautiful daughter. He tricked her into meeting him in his “house” in the middle of the forest, where it was dark and lonely. He thought he would get away with it because she was a woman, and therefore he thought she wasn’t smart enough to escape. Women sometimes are seen as a decorative sex. This reflects upon how society views women. In society women are seen as weak individuals whom completely rely on men. Women are seen as utensils, rather than human beings at times. The role of women in society has been greatly overseen in the last few decades. In the early days women were seen as wives who were only intended to cook, clean, and take care of the children. Many things have changed in the past years as women have become more superior in society. Growing up my mother was a single mother. She taught me that women are just as capable as men. My mother is my idle and she has shown me that you don’t need a man in life to fulfill anything. The miller wanted his daughter to get married by any means because he thought that was the best thing for her. The miller was wrong because she was better off without him. She survived.
