Patrick Kelly The Poem “The Land of Counterpane” I found to be very enjoyable. The poem is told from the child’s point of view as he lies in bed sick. Even though the child was sick he somehow finds joy throughout all of his time in bed. As the boy was lying in bed he uses his imagination to create a fake/unrealistic world. Even while being sick the child was able to somehow stay upbeat to a sense and create and imaginary world. One of the reasons why I really enjoyed this poem is mainly in part because it’s so unrealistic. Most kids when they are young and get sick, cry like there is no tomorrow, bothering there mother and father non-stop. It just so happens that this young child is able to cope with being sick in a very mature manner because it is a very unrealistic poem, and would not happen in my opinion to your average child.
