Charlotte’s Web is a very interesting book in the sense of it’s “modern fantasy” genre. I’ve always been an animal lover, so I love that there are personified talking animals. When you start reading the book, it just seems like realistic fiction. There are no fantasy elements until a few chapters in. When Wilbur goes to Fern’s uncle’s farm, things get a little more imaginative. Wilbur transforms from a baby pig to a young pig with human child-like tendencies. Beyond that, we see that all the animals can now talk. And man, they have a lot to say! Each animal has it’s own distinct personalities and as the reader, you can pick your favorites. They have so much personality, that you can even imagine which animals you would want to be friends with and which you would want to stay far away from. For example, if Charlotte the spider was a human, she’d be a motherly figure you would gravitate towards. In comparison, Templeton the rat would be a creep you’d stay away from.
