As someone of the Jewish faith, I’ve always appreciated books that were set during the Holocaust. I read plenty of them growing up and the topic never became any easier. Number The Stars by Luis Lowry and Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli are two of the most memorable books I can recall on this topic. Both of these books give glimpses into the lives of children, (Jewish and not) during German occupation of European countries. It’s easy to put ourself in the shoes of a child at that time. That’s what makes these books so devastating to me. It blows my mind that there are actually people that deny that the Holocaust happened. I’ve seen videos on Facebook of people being asked about world history and the Holocaust and some of these people don’t even know who Hitler was. That is deeply upsetting to me and I believe that uneducated people are the ones who allow people like Trump to rise to power. Please tell your friends about the Holocaust and other tragic things from our past. Don’t let intolerance win.
