In the story of Sylvester and The Magic Pebble, it illustrates about the characters called Sylvester Duncan got a red magic pebble and then encounter different things with his parents. This realistic fictional story is equipped with animals with human characteristics such as their way of life and the ability to talk. The only main characters are Sylvester Duncan and his parents. I believe that strong theme of this picture book is about the importance of family. The main character Sylvester Duncan thought if he has the magic pebble, he could get everything that he wanted. Yet, after encountered a incident which he mad himself changed into a rock. Sylvester Duncan separated with his family nothing else seemed to matter any more. Sylvester just wanted to go back to his family, and finally he got his wish. I like this story because it shows the importance of family. After Sylvester turned into a rock, his parents went everywhere to find him back. They were heartbroken for the lost of Sylvester Duncan. It reminds me when I was young, I got lost in a park. My parents were trying their best to find me back. I was crying after saw my parents and all I wanted was staying with them. The book teaches children that their parents love them more than anything and family is the most important thing in life. In the end it didn’t matter what Sylvester and his family could have got with the magic pebble, they had each other and that was all they needed to be happy.
